From Bruce: I Will Put My Hope In God

In the following entry taken from the John eNewsletter, Bruce shares some news updates about John including the “Producer Partners” and unveils a sneak peek at the developing concept art for John:

“I Will Put My Hope in God”

It is the caption to a print that I had framed and now hangs on the wall above my desk, maybe three feet from where I’m sitting right now. The quote being from Psalm 43:5, the print is of a painting - a man sitting on his bed in a jail cell, a Bible on the blanket next to him. This print is the only thing I have hanging above my desk. Outside of it, there is only blank wall.

Whenever anyone sees this print they are very struck by it. That’s not because of the artwork - it’s not a famous painting nor is the artist well known. It’s because there are names and signatures scribbled all across it. It’s because it is obviously old with yellowed scotch tape around its frayed edges. It’s because there’s obviously a story in it - it means something more than decoration…

Coming Soon: Phase II + Sneak Peek At Concept Art

$500,000 remains the figure that will carry John into Phase II, which marks the beginning of the production phase. We emphasize the word phase because it doesn’t mean the cameras will then roll right away. This $500,000 goal marks the first of three production phases, the third being principal photography. It lays an all-important foundation for production to be built on, so it is very crucial. We’re already $82,000 into it, so be blessed that already, through your prayers, God is doing it! And so we continue to pray, pressing through for that remaining $418,000! This must be our intercessory focus.

And keep an eye out for the upcoming John Newsletter. We’re unveiling one small frame of our art director’s work - The Sea of Galilee - to give you a tiny peek at the look of John - and how excitingly “fresh” it is going to be. Glory to the name of Jesus!

An Email From One Of Our Executive Producers

The following is an email that one of our executive producers and executives in charge of distribution sent to Bruce, while he was on a missions trip:

Bruce, not much computer time but just to report that we feel everyone’s prayers. We have witnessed some amazing things as God has strongly ’shown up.’ This village we’re serving is VERY poor. Really, I have never seen such things. They hardly have anything. Then there is the dump we visited - where people literally live. They recycle trash to survive and they live in the trash. Their homes, if you call them homes, are made of the trash and the children are so beyond filthy and degraded. This dump is all they know. We prayed with them and passed out stickers to the children and gave clothes to the families… We prayed many times over them and shared the love of Jesus. Words can not come close to describe what we experienced. There are many things I could share but I do not have much time on the computer.

And I have been seeing with my own eyes how a film like JOHN will BLOW these precious people away. They appreciate ANY little thing so much, and to come here with it. MANY, MANY would come to Christ here. So this mission trip is letting me see the world in a new way so that I can understand even more the need and how we desperately need to get the film to the world, and exactly how we can do that. PRAISE JESUS!!

John In June: A Month Of Prayer

Thank you for making May . . . We Pray a huge success! We were continually touched, awed, amazed at the outpouring of prayers into the e-mail account for the project - and we are so convinced that prayer is the key to every door opening for John, funding and otherwise, we have decided to continue this prayer focus with John in June. . .a Month of Prayer!

As in May, we have created a Prayer Calendar. You can print this tri-fold and slide it into your Bible, purse or backpack for convenience. We have separated the prayer into weeks as opposed to days with specific items of prayer for John. And we encourage you to continue sending your personal prayer requests to maywepray@gmail.com so that we can all serve one another as brothers and sisters in Jesus, carrying each other’s need to God’s throne.

Team John will be posting your prayer requests in the John message boards. Again, in order to protect your privacy, we will not reveal your name or place of residence, or any information through which you may be identified

All I can say is, “Glory to Jesus!”

It’s been an absolutely breathtaking week, this week of May We Pray.  I have often said that at the end of the day it is the praying - you and I and thousands of brothers and sisters from nations across the globe, all together on our knees, crying out to God - that will be the reason John sees fulfillment - that fulfillment not being merely a Jesus movie - but the souls upon souls that will come to Him as a result!

From Bruce: As Our Week Of Prayer Has Begun

As our week of prayer has begun…

I just want to pop in and say a huge thank you to you who are coming alongside us this week, as we gather on our knees.  I’ve just returned from Nashville where I had round-the-clock meetings with the executive producers - all beginning with serious prayer of course (pretty cool to see executive producers crying out to Jesus for a good hour or more!  This is the key to JOHN!).  Things are going better than well, and we are fast getting on a fast track toward that day when the cameras roll.  Glory to Jesus!

May We Pray

MAY 18 - 25, 2008

The people came together to seek help from the Lord; indeed, they came from every town in Judah to seek him… “For the battle is not yours, but God’s!”

(excerpted from 2 Chronicles 20)

As Bruce has written, there is literally nothing we can do that is more productive or that will bring the fullness of “your kingdom come, your will be done,” than to pray.

Join us for May. . .We Pray! A week dedicated to prayer not only for The Gospel According to John but to also lift each other in prayer as well. We will not only be praying specifically for the fulfillment of John and the practical elements needed for that to happen - but we will also, as a community of believers, unite to pray for one another. Glory to the name of Jesus!

I am so blessed to sit here today and know so many of you stand behind John in excitement for its fulfillment, in prayer for its fulfillment, and in practical support, taking steps of sacrificial giving so that it will be fulfilled. Glory to the name of Jesus!

Of late I have been so deeply impressed of the scriptural truth noted above, the battle belongs to the Lord. The great success of our God Can campaign - a campaign that didn’t look promising going in, based on the small number of participants relative to John-A-Thon - has really brought me to my knees. What a glorious lesson God Can was in the kingdom truth that God uses those things that don’t look promising in human eyes and explodes on the scene with his glory and power - so that all the glory goes to him. Glory to Jesus!

From Bruce: ‘God Can’ Report

GOD CAN… and God surely did! Glory to the name of Jesus!

I can only praise God for his faithfulness - and thank you who were so faithful to participate. The results are still coming in but what a testimony to God’s ways which are never our ways (Isaiah 55:8), and which always require faith and ultimately proclaim the testimony, “‘Not by might or power but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord” (Zechariah 4:6). Glory to the name of Jesus!

In our human standards and expectations, GOD CAN participation was well below our targeted hope, which was based on the numbers of folks who participated in JOHN-A-THON. But therein is the testimony - and the source of my excitement - my excitement being the experience of God doing this, and not man! Even with fewer participants, the funds that have come in so far (and reports are still coming in) far exceed what was raised during JOHN-A-THON! In other words the Lord took what didn’t look promising in human eyes and did “exceedingly, abundantly above and beyond” what we expected or hoped for! GOD CAN literally became an exercise in the truth that God most surely can! Praise his wondrous name!
